The tragedy outside Stora Fagerö in the Inkoo skerries on December 12 1944 caused major interest among the inhabitants. Two German destroyers Z35 and Z36, with a crew of 331 each, ran onto German (!) mines. About 60 survivors managed to reach the shores and were handed over to the Soviets. 45 of the survivors came from Z35 and the rest from Z36. More than 200 corpses were collected and buried firstly on Stora Fagerö, later at Honkanummi cemetery in Vantaa. Of these only about 20 could be identified

How many reached the shores on the Soviet side of the then newly established border is not known.
